The Time Has Come
We have officially reached our first milestone for FTW 2.0: we have to migrate Rag. I know, you probably thought we were going to squeak by without having to do this. Oh no, Sparky, this is Ark. We are a few days shy of 6 months of uptime, so that’s progress at least.
If you’ve been here through the years, you know what’s coming and what to do. If you haven’t been here through a GSM, stick around so I can learn you a thing or two.
WTF is a GSM?
GSM stands for Great Server Migration. It’s like a wipe, only you don’t lose anything. Every once in a while, the servers reach a point, like Rag now, where they begin to have performance issues that worsen over time. Frequent crashing, lag, and they are very slow to either shut down or start back up. Eventually, the server will crash and won’t ever come back up. So, when we start to see the server issues indicating that we’re in the fast lane to LoseYourShitVille, we get all proactive-like.
Technically, migration does wipe the server, however, you and your stuff aren’t on it when it get’s wiped. A week before the wipe occurs, we set up an identical server and you move all of your stuff, and your character, off of the server being wiped. At the end of the week, we have Nitrado push the runtime to the new server and all is well in the Land of Oz.
So what now?
The Migration Period, the period where you tear down your base and move to the new server, will begin on Saturday, 30 May. You will have 7 days to move your items, dinos, and character to the new server. On Saturday, 06 June, the current Ragnarok server will disappear forever.
What am I responsible for?
You will be responsible for tearing down your base and moving everything you wish to keep to the new server. Admins will not move items for you.
Do I get to keep my spot?
Yes, your current spot will be reserved on the new server. You will, however, need to submit a ticket with a screenshot of you holding a GPS in the middle of your current base footprint.
What if I want to move to a new spot?
You will need to wait for the conclusion of the migration period is over before you can move. If you move to a new spot on the new server, and it is claimed by someone on the current server, you will have to leave the area until that player is established.
What about the stuff Ark won’t let me transfer?
Along with the screenshot of your coordinates, you will need to submit screenshots of everything Ark will not allow you to transfer, showing the amounts of those items. At some point during or following the migration period, an admin will spawn the items in for you either at your base or at the CC on the new server.
Dude, this is a lot of crap. How the hell am I going to move it all to my base location?
We will be increasing the weight cap for both players and tames to infinite for the duration of the GSM, so there should be no issues with transporting things across the map.
